About

Sarah and Will met unexpectedly in 2017 and knew they weren't just destined to be partners in life, but knew there was a future in some sort of business together, and after a few years of been dreaming about getting out of their formal careers in construction and as a nurse, things started to fall right into place. Sarah and Will's love of growing food, and making meals together that were able to be completely sourced on the farm for their family inspired a desire to grow their operation to make more availability of this wholesome lifestyle to their neighbors and their community. It quickly went from sharing all of the extra food they were growing and harvesting with neighbors then branching out within the community to family, friends, and coworkers. It wasn't long before adding chickens for eggs, and meat, a bottle calf to grow out to a family dairy cow, pasture pigs for meat, and lard for countless homestead uses, we quickly erupted into a business.

Hungry to apply all of their skills and knowledge they knew they were striving for a bigger canvas. In August 2024, they took a leap of faith and moved the family to Strasburg to begin managing the Double R Bar Ranch & Farm, which was home to sheep, horses, goats, ducks, turkeys, and egg-laying chickens. Shortly after embarking on this new journey, Sarah applied for the inaugural cohort of Virginia Tech & Virginia State University's first cohort for Limited Resource, Veteran, Beginning Farmer and Rancher Certification Program, a 13 month comprehensive hybrid educational experience that combined online, and in-person learning to cover key topics such as agribusiness production, financial management, whole farm planning, and marketing strategies. Between the enormous amount of patience and on-farm and remote assistance from the Small Farm Outreach Program, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Soil and Health Coalition, US Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), US Forest Service (FS), Women in Agriculture, and many others. Through working with all of these entities/agencies Sarah and Will built and built upon their knowledge transforming both businesses into successful farming operations, along with the most recent addition of the Double R's Alpaca Farm "Erin's Alpacas!"

"We are building a legacy for our children, and their children, and all of the generations to come. In a world of uncertainty, one thing is for certain, our families will have the tools they need to live off the land, no matter what the world throws their way. Thank you for supporting local, and most importantly being a part of this dream becoming a reality." - Will & Sarah
